10 Home Office Essentials

Hello there! Have you ever dreamt of having your very own home office but have no idea where to start? Or maybe you already have a home office but needed to be more organized? Here are my top 10 home office essentials to help you start organizing your home office. Just with these items, you can already have your very own organized, comfy and inviting home office that will surely boost your productivity!

Let's start!

1.Comfy  Chair

This is one of the most essential things you need in a home office. Since you would be sitting in that chair for 6-8 hours a day, depending on your type of job, you would probably want to sit in a comfortable chair.

You should get a chair that suits your body to make sure that your posture is always right. One of the most common causes of fatigue is staying in a wrong posture in a long time. So if you are buying a chair, make sure to try to sit on it for at least a good 5 minutes, and if everything feels right then go and get that chair! And also, you want to make sure that your chair has the appropriate height for your table, which is next in our list.

2.Worktable

If you are shopping for a chair, you might want to list down the height of your table. If you are shopping for a table, you should also do the same with the chair. The ideal set up of your chair and table is when you sit in your chair and place both of your hands on your table, your forearm should be parallel to the floor and your feet should be flat on the floor. The height of the chair and table would affect that, especially if your chair is not height adjustable.

As for the table, you might want to choose a sturdy table and also make sure that your table is leveled. As for the size of the table, you could go for anything that would fit your needs. If you have a lot of room you could use a full-size office table or if you only have a tiny space for your home office you could opt for a smaller table or even a corner table.

3.Lighting

Did you know that the lighting in your office can affect your productivity? Yup! It can! Studies say that the best lighting that positively affects your productivity is Natural Light. So the best place to position your home office is by a window where you could have natural light coming in. But if that is not possible, you have to make sure that you have a proper lighting. Here are some guidelines on proper lighting if you don't have access to natural light:

  1. You should be able to read everything on your table. This can be achieved by having a light source opposite to where you are facing when seated and slightly above your head. This limits headaches and other eye strains due to reading in poor lights.
  2. If you are using your computer a lot, aside from the light mentioned above, you might want to add another source of light somewhere behind your monitor or laptop. This will reduce the harsh light from your computer screen.
  3. Another way to achieve a natural light is to have white or light colored walls. This will make your room a little brighter.

4.Calendar

For me, this is very important since I am very forgetful about schedules. Haha! You should have a calendar that you could always see. One great idea is having a wall calendar that you can clearly see at just a glance.

5.Gadget Holders

This is very important especially if your job requires a lot of calls. You would want to have a gadget holder of any kind to hold your phone and other most needed gadgets that are within your reach.

6.Pen & Paper Organizers

This also should be always within your reach. This reduces the time wasted scrambling in your drawers just to find a pen and paper.

7.File Organizers

Some organizers don't need to be always within your reach, especially if you have a lot of documents and paper works. It's better to find a place for your organizers, it could be in another table beside your working table or even could be in your shelves.

8.Coaster / Cupholder

Let's admit it, we need coffee or tea to be more productive. If you're not a fan of those two, I tell you, you need to at least have a glass or bottle of water beside you. And in order to prevent accidental spills from your drinks, you might want to have a coaster or a cup holder.

Also always place your drink in one spot, this will train your brain to remember where your drink sits and prevent accidentally nudging your drink.

9.Inspirations / Motivation

This may be a photo of your family or loved ones or could be some inspirational arts or quotes that you could always look at when you need a little boost. This also increases your productivity very well.

10.Decoration

Your office area should be somewhere you like to spend time in. Some decorations that you like will give you that feeling. It should look like a place that won't bore you, it should always look inviting for you.
